The English language
The English language is all around us here in Norway. On a daily basis I use English words like: please, money, snowboard, taxi, take- away, mail, sorry, shopping, okey, facebook, instagram, get a life, brownie and boots.
Some people would say that having many English words in our language is a positive thing. It makes us more global, and can help us become more known to the language. It can also have a negative effect on the Norwegian culture, and make us loose our identity to the Norwegian language.
There can be both positive and negative aspects of having English as a lingua franca. The positive aspect is that the English language is used between many people to communicate within politics, trade, tourism, media and entertainment. The negative aspects of having English as a lingua france is that people can be absorbed by the English language and loose their own lingual identity.
